Obituary for Gordon Wesley Burnett

Gordon Burnett passed away, peacefully, Wednesday June 15th, at the Wellington Terrace Long Term Care in Fergus, in his 100th year.
He was born in Fergus, Ontario, April 23rd,1923 to parents Alexander Burnett and Annie Brett.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 72 years, Doreen (Dot) Clayton 2018, his only brother John Burnett and sister-in-law Beth.

He was the loved Father of Bonny (Jim) Nevett of Fergus, Murray (Muriel) Burnett of Fergus, Lorraine (Richard) Clausi of Elmira and the Proud Grandpa of Brian (Deanna) Nevett, Sandra (Derek) Bolger, Diane (Jason) Woodard, Christopher Burnett, Dawn Burnett, Trevor (Tammy) Sargent, David (Debbie) Sargent and Michelle (Andrew) Logan.
Gordon was Great Grandpa to 15 great grandchildren and Brother-in-law of Leola Solomon, and Alice Donald.

Dad was a proud and busy farmer for over fifty years on the 8th line East Garafraxa north of Belwood. Dad enjoyed his farm animals, and working his land. He took pride in maintaining his tractor and implements rather than buying new.
A devastating barn fire in 1963 was a huge setback, but Gordon was able to rebuild his livelihood in a timely manner with a new barn constructed on the property.

Gordon was an active school board member in the late fifties- he also drove the school bus for several years. He enjoyed transporting all of the youngsters safely to school each day.

Dad and Mom enjoyed visiting and spending time with residents at local long term care and retirement homes over the years. They were always ready for a game of cards and a visit with neighbours and friends, or enjoying the music at Saturday night dances.
Gordon loved a good conversation, had a good sense of humour and treated everyone he met with respect. He was truly a gentleman.

Gordon played the Violin from an early age, and he crafted several violins of his own as an adult. Each displayed great skill and patient detail.

In 1999 Gordon and Dot sold their farm and built a house at Pine Meadows. There they enjoyed nineteen good retirement years.

Gordon has resided at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care, for over four years. Our family would like to thank all of W.T. Staff, Dr. John Stickney and especially the PSW’s, Nurses, and Staff working in Walnut Grove Neighbourhood for the outstanding and compassionate care Dad received. Thank you!

Visitation will take place on Monday June 20, 2022 from 6-9 PM at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus. A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday June 21, 2022 at 1 :30 PM at McKee Cemetery in East Garafraxa Twp. Following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at St. John’s United Church, Belwood for refreshments and fellowship.
