Obituary for Gerald Clive Meachem

Meachem, Gerald Clive, passed away as he lived, quietly and peacefully, in the early morning hours on Friday, February 11, 2022, in his 79th year. Gerry leaves behind his loving wife, Sue (nee Goodyear), his daughters Samantha (Rick) Kirkwood and Natasha (Mark) Wilkie, 4 grandchildren (Maxwell, Alyson, Rebecca, Matthew), 4 great grandchildren (Nikxyn, Lily, Harlyn, and Ruby), and his younger brother Mike, who resides in the UK. Gerry was a quiet man who would do anything for you. He and Sue emigrated from England to Canada in 1980 in search of a better life for their family. Gerry was king of the dart board and with a knowing smirk he would relieve his sons-in-law of their money; he cooked food that would rival a four-star restaurant and loved to share his special dishes with his family; and to his grandkids he was the one who gave out the iced ‘lollys’ and special treasures found at his favourite antiquing spots. Gerry always had a memorable story to share over family meals and at holidays, a testament of his character and a life well lived.

Gerry’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the neighbours, friends and caregivers who stopped by and provided support, allowing Gerry to remain at home during the last 6 months of his life. In particular Albert Giles, the doctors and nurses at Groves Memorial and Guelph General Hospital, and Dr. Vogel. Thank you for the endless at home support provided by the nurses from Saint Elizabeth’s, in particular Kristen Johnson. Gerry received first class care.

To honor Gerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place at a future date.
God saw that he was getting tired, a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered, ‘Come with me.’ With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer, and we saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating. Hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes ‘the best’. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
