Obituary for Frederick Laverne "Fred" Hoag

Frederick Laverne "Fred" Hoag
Dad went to be with his beloved wife on Sunday, November 10th, with his family gathered around him. Born in 1932 in Midland, he worked many jobs in his time, and fondly remembered his days in lumber camps, where he learned to play the guitar. He also sailed out of Port McNichol and Victoria Harbour during the glory years of Great Lakes shipping. A high rigging job brought him to Guelph where he met Edith and eventually moved to Fergus, where they resided on Union Street for the past 50 years. In retirement he enjoyed his time driving school bus and interacting with the students, many of whom still remember him today. We love you Dad, our lives will never be the same, but the impact you had on them will never fade away. Fred is survived by his son George, and grandchildren Matthew and Alyssa. Thank you to the staff at Groves Memorial, Guelph General and St. Joseph’s Hospitals for taking care of him at this time. A celebration of life will take place at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus on Friday November, 15th at 3:00 pm, with visitation at 2pm. Reception to follow after the service. Donations to Groves Memorial Hospital or the Humane Society in Fred’s memory would be appreciated by the family. www.grahamgiddyfh.com 519 843 3100
