He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy (née Moran) formerly of Ottawa and his children Sandy & Bill Kane (Amherst, NS), Carol and Jack Allan (Binbrook), Wendy & Alex Smith, Jim and Nancy Speers, Don and Debbie Speers (all of Elora), Ken and Diane Speers (Palmerston), Debbie and Joe Wilkie (Halifax, NS). He is fondly remembered by his 23 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren (with more on the way). He is survived by his brother Gordon, his sister Eleanor Taylor and his stepsister, Jean Hoffman. Franklin grew up in Palmerston, attended Radio College in Toronto and worked at the National Research Council in Ottawa before opening Speers Electric in Elora in 1945. He was a self-taught electrician, plumber, mechanic and technician in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning. Frank was a District Deputy Grand Master of Irvine Lodge in Elora and had received his 60-year pin. He was a charter member of the Elora Lion’s Club and was on the Public School Board. He was an active member of the Elora United Church where he was an elder and Clerk of Session. Frank was an avid collector of antiques, enjoyed a good sense of humour and was always ready with a story. He enjoyed problem solving and inventing. He constructed an 1895 Pacer and 1898 Street Organ from found and/or fashioned materials. He taught himself how to play the organ for family enjoyment.
