Obituary for Ellen McKay Stevenson (Worthington)
Mrs. Ellen (Nellie) Stevenson (nee Worthington) passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the age of 94, with her beloved husband and daughter by her side.
Nellie is survived by her husband Robert of 71 years, her daughter Doreen of Fergus and her sister Margaret Stevenson in Ballymena, N. Ireland. She is preceded in death by her daughter Sandra, sisters Mattie, Maryanne and brothers William and Samuel.
Nellie was born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland to Samuel and Martha Worthington on January 9, 1927. Immigrated to Canada in 1953 with her loving husband and young daughter Doreen. While starting their new life in a new country their youngest daughter Sandra was born. Nellie always welcomed friends and family to her home with a cup of tea and a biscuit.
Besides baking and cooking family meals she loved to knit. Nellie always had great faith and was very involved in her church. Nellie and Robert were active members of the Sons and Daughters of Ireland Club.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral service is being held on Wednesday, December 29th, 2021 at Graham Giddy Funeral Home, Fergus Chapel, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus ON. Visitation is from 12:00 to 1:00 pm followed by the service in the Chapel. A reception immediately after. All attendees must wear a mask and be fully vaccinated against COVID 19.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Groves Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus ON.
