Obituary for Elizabeth Hamnett

Peacefully on May 3, 2010, supported by the love of her family. Dearly loved wife of Gordon Hamnett for 65 years. Cherished mother of Carolyn and her husband Tom Skimson, Gordon and his wife Jane Gogan and Glenna and her husband Geoffrey Faulkner. Devoted grandmother of Erin, Stephen and Mark Skimson, Robin (Campbell) and Michael Faulkner and Sandon Hamnett, and great-grandmother of Tristan and Haiden Campbell, Cameron and William Peters and Meredith Skimson. Pre-deceased by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth (nee Janes) Mogridge and brothers George and Bob. Sister-in-law of Helen Fenton of Vancouver. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews.A beautiful young woman, Betty grew up in La Salle, Quebec enjoying a wide range of sports. She moved to London, Ontario in 1960. With style, creativity and finely honed skills of cooking, sewing, knitting, decorating and gardening, she embraced the role of mother and homemaker. An interest in pottery grew into a successful avocation, with deep enjoyment of friends along the way. Betty used her many skills in support of others, through volunteer work with children’s programs in Montreal and Westminster Hospital veterans in London. Betty’s love for her family has touched the life of each and every member.A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church St. E., Elora, on Sat., May 8, 2010, with visiting from 9:30 AM and service at 11:00 AM, followed by internment at the Elora Cemetery. Reception to follow at Giddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CODE (Canadian Organization for Development through Education at www.codecan.org or 321 Chapel St, Ottawa, ON K1N 7Z2, or the Canadian Cancer Society.Many thanks to the Centre Wellington Palliative Team and CCAC support services for their committed and sensitive care.
