Obituary

Elfriede Hedwig Nitsche (Elfie)
Peacefully passed away on July 25, 2019 at the age of 89 years.

Born January 14, 1930 in Wolsfberg Austria to Alois and Veronika (Voller) Weniger.

Loving wife of the late Heinz Nitsche. Dear mother of Wolfgang, Gabriele, Eric and Thomas.

With fond memories of her native Austria and often hard stories of post war life in Germany, Elfie together with Heinz made the challenging decision to immigrate to Canada in November 1964.
Setting off with Wolfgang and Gaby in hand and Eric arriving shortly thereafter, they settled in Kitchener Ontario where they never left. Soon after expanding the family with Tom, they moved to Elizabeth Street which would set the stage for so many beginnings and memories.

Mom worked hard at home and at her private cleaning jobs which saw her sacrifice many weeknights and weekends. She eventually retired from Renison College where students and staff cherished her happy work ethic. Throughout her life, mom never expressed need for anything. She required a steady turnover of German read novels (of no specific genre) and she had a lifelong penchant for the odd gameshow. Seemingly forever known as “Mutti”, our next generation had us adjust to “Oma”, which she loved to be.

Oma will be fondly remembered and missed by all of her children,

Wolfgang (Late) and Wendy Nitsche, Jason and Christopher
Gaby and Gord Hess, Aimee and Chris Gannon, and David
Eric and Robin Nitsche, Caitlin, Thomas and Alison
Tom and Peggy Nitsche, Sam and Max
Herta (nee) Weniger – Austria

Great Grandchildren, Nicholas, Sophia and Walker

Family and Friends are welcome to join us for a celebration of Elfie’s life on Friday August 2nd between 1 and 4pm at the home of Tom’s family, 319 Golf Course Rd. Conestogo.

We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the caregivers from the local LHIN and CarePartners Home Health Service, allowing mom to remain in the comfort of her own home.
Donations in Elfie’s honor can be made to CarePartners
