Obituary for Eileen Cole-Perkins (Haight)

Eileen Cole-Perkins (nee Haight), 90, of Fergus, Ontario passed away peacefully on October 22, 2022 at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, Ontario.

She is survived by her sons Jeff (and Christine) Cole of Elmira and David (and Donna) Cole of Ottawa, grandchildren Bryan (and Sia) Cole of Prospect, NS, Elli Cole of Elmira, ON, and great-grandson Arlo Cole of Prospect, NS.

She is preceded in death by her husbands Alan Cole of Mississauga in 1981 and George Perkins of Campbellford, ON in 2013.

Eileen was born in Brantford, ON to Archie and Frances Haight on Nov. 14, 1931. She attended high school in Brantford and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University in 1953. She worked as a teacher for the Ontario School for the Blind in Brantford, ON and several elementary schools in Etobicoke and Mississauga.

She enjoyed trips to Florida and sailing with Alan and the boys, and boating, fishing and snow-mobiling with George at their trailer near Honey Harbour and later Campbellford. She and George were devoted grandparents to the small grand children. Eileen loved playing bridge and volunteered extensively with her Anglican church parishes and local Lions Clubs, being awarded the Lions’ Melvin Jones Award.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 1pm at the Church of St. John the Evangelist at 36 Henderson St. in Elora, ON. Visitation will be held on Friday. October 28 from 5 to 7pm at Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home at 280 St. David St. South in Fergus, ON. Face masks will be required at both events.

No flowers please. In lieu, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Elora or Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.
