Obituary for Edith Mary Carey

Edith Mary  Carey
Passed away on February 21, 2016 at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus, Ontario. Edith was born on November 9, 1922 in Arthur Township, and came to Fergus in 1940 after graduating from Mount Forest High School. She married Roy in 1943, and raised three sons on their farm five miles northwest of Fergus, in Nichol Township. Edith had moved back to Fergus after Roy passed away in 1972 where she worked in retail for eighteen years, most notably at Stedman’s. After retirement, Edith volunteered at the Seniors Centre for sixteen years until she had a heart attack in 2008. She was a long-time member of Melville United Church, and a twenty-five year member of the Elora Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Edith canvassed for many years for heart, cancer, and kidney drives. She enjoyed lawn and alley bowling, golf, curling, and more recently, Wii bowling. Edith travelled to most parts of Canada, including Newfoundland and the Yukon, and many places in the U.S., including Alaska, as well as the British Isles. Edith will be dearly missed by her three sons, Leonard and his wife Lea (Ruston) (London), Howard and his wife Sharon (Whale) (Elora), and Glen and his wife Anne (Schmidt) (Goderich). Edith will also be missed by her three grandsons and seven great-grandchildren, Brent and his wife Marnie (Georgetown) – sons Dylan, Liam, and Ryan, Jason and his wife June (Brights Grove) – daughters Alecia, and McKinley, Shawn and his wife Kim (Collingwood), daughters Leyah, and Jordan. She was pre-deceased by her siblings Grace Lytle, Doris Pritchard, Howard Brown and Clarence Brown and is survived by Mildred Redfern (Brantford), Viola Telfer (Brantford), and Fred Brown (Waterdown). Visitation will take place 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Friday February 26 at The Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 27 at 11:00am at the funeral home.
