Obituary for Dorothy "Nan" Lustig

After all the loving words and touch, Dorothy Nan Lustig (Nee:Clifford ) passed away December 6th,2010 comfortably and peacefully in her 81st year, at home surrounded by her whole family. She was the loved and loving wife of George, devoted and compassionate mother of Michael, Dawna, Janet and Peter. The mother–in–law of Alex Saba, Kevin Sakamoto and Katherine. Adored grandmother of Selina, Becky, Eric, Nigel, Paul, Sean, Jamie, Erica, Ashley, Tyler, William and Francisco. Dear sister and sister- in – law to Ron, Margaret, Ted and Guilda. Nan and George enjoyed the many cities they lived in while they raised their four children. She loved traveling, children, dogs and was always a vibrant and well respected member of her community. In 1983 they bought and began to restore the old St. John’s United Church manse in Belwood. Nan graduated with an honors degree in Anthropology from the University of Toronto. At the age of 60, she obtained a Master’s degree from the University of Guelph. Nan was a volunteer with Wellington Hospice for 10 years and founded a children’s grief group in Guelph. She was awarded the June Callwood Award for her work in this area. Nan worked on the board of the Belwood United Church during it’s expansion, she also participated in the St. John’s Ambulance therapy dog program for 5 years with her dog Mattie, with weekly visits to Highland Manor and the Seniors Drop In Centre in Fergus. After their 57 years of marriage, George and Nan were still highly devoted to each other. They shared their homes with many dogs and cherished family events and their world trips together. A funeral service will be held at St. John’s United Church, in Belwood on Thursday December 9th at 11 am, visitation will take place prior to the service from 10-11 am. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery- 162 Woolwich St in Guelph.
