Obituary for Doris Hoyt

On Sunday Morning, December 12, surrounded by love our mum Doris Hoyt, left us for her next journey, Mum was born on June 13, 1925, in Brighton, Sussex, England. She had an enduring love of her home on the downs where she had many fond memories of her vibrant family. She was the eldest daughter of Alfred and Ellen Curtis; she was saddened by her sister Sheila's sudden and unexpected passing in the 1960's but is survived by her brother Brian. In 1945 her idyllic seaside life forever changed when she met a charming Canadian soldier, Jack Hoyt, on a blind date. They spent fifty years together, in New Brunswick then Elora, and raised eight children, all of whom survived them. She was widowed in 1995. Mum loved to travel and, once she retried from housework, became intimately familiar with the likes of Paris, France, Caen, Normandy, Gilbraltar and Amsterdam, sampling all they had to offer in the arts and cafes. Mum loved all music, especially the kind with good tune and a snappy beat for dancing. Jokes, comedies, a book with a great plot twist and French champagne-these were all grist for her mill. We will miss her very dearly. She had a sharp intelligence and keen sense of history and international affairs. We wish her love on her journey and know that she will be forever remembered by those who knew her and loved her. At this time she leaves, to mourn, her children Judy, Joanie, Evelyn, Kenny, Giles, Nora, Vivien, and Andrew. Their families also mourn their loss. She was loved. Funeral Service will be held at St. John's the Evangelist, Anglican Church, Elora? On Wednesday, December 15th, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Canon Robert Hulse officiating. Visitation will be held at St. John's Church from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. prior to the time of service. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Graham A.
