Obituary for Doris Mildred Cookman (Lee)
Passed away at Wellington Terrace in her 94th year. Mom was born October 11, 1921 in Kitchener to the late Frederick & Esther Lee. Lovingly remembered by her sisters Joan Watson of Minneapolis and the late Gwen Croth of Kitchener, sister-in-law Pat Bailey of Waterloo and the late Corinne Moffett. She was married to the late Don Bailey of Kitchener and had a son Chris Bailey of Fergus.
Mom then married the late Roy (Joe) Cookman of Salem and had six children Jane Keating (Al), Jo-Anne Wooddisse (Paul), Richard Cookman (Patti), Lynda Cookman & Peter Cookman (Kathy). Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Camilla Keating (Carlo Ceroli), Jennifer Keating (Gord Mackie), Maggie Keating (Jamie Schinck), John Keating (Jessica Cunningham-Keating), Tara Wooddisse (Jeff Wood), Tyler Wooddisse (Natalie DePalma-Wooddisse), Catherine McIsaac, Carly Cookman (Will Orpin), Justin Cookman, Curtis Cookman, Jordanna Cookman. As well, lovingly remembered by her great grandchildren William & Sam Ceroli, Madeleine & Alwynn Mackie, Cooper & Mia Schinck, Raya, Liam & Summer Keating, Grace Wooddisse, Ainslie & Julia McIsaac. Lovingly remembered by her nieces & nephew Tom Watson & Kathy Deveny, John Watson, Sue Watson-Stillman & John Stillman, John Croth, Nancy Croth & Jay Croth.
Dorrie spent time living in New York with her late husband Don and then returned to Canada where Don passed away. Dorrie & their son Chris lived in Kitchener where she met and married Roy (Joe) Cookman.
Mom was a homemaker for most of her life raising her children, keeping the home together and making sure we hit curfew. She did belong to the Elora Horticultural Society and the Elora Legion Women's Auxiliary but mostly just loved being a mother. She loved to see pictures of the grandchildren but especially got to visit her daughter Lynda who is Down Syndrome also at the Terrace. As well, she could still do the New York crossword puzzle up to end.
Special mention to the Wellington Terrace especially Apple Valley RN's, PSW's, Meal Prep ladies, cleaners everyone that made Mom so comfortable. Thanks as well to Dr. Stickney for Mom's care.
In lieu of flowers, please give to the Canadian Diabetes Society or the Elora Canadian Legion.
