Born in West Garafraxa, December 23, 1936 – July 7, 2010.Beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Cosby) for more than 48 years. Passed away peacefully at his Fergus home early Wednesday, July 7th surrounded by loved ones. Loving Father of Mark and his wife Laura, Robert (Norm) and Julia (Connie). Cherished “Papa” to Jackson and Emily. Predeceased by his parents Percy & Ruth (Martin). He will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters; George, Mildred Wilson (Jim), Wilma Dickinson, Ken (Ruby), Walter (Pat) and sister-in-law Sheila Gamble (John). David touched the lives of many dear friends and extended family with kindness, humour and compassion. They all cherished him and brought him great comfort and support over the past few months. Dad was an avid gardener, curler and lifelong teacher spending most of his career at Milton District High School. He enjoyed coaching and playing a variety of sports and continued his teaching through Sunday school at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Churches in Streetsville and Fergus. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need, David spent countless hours volunteering for the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, Heart & Stroke, Boy Scouts of Canada and many other causes. His love for nature conservation and the great outdoors was demonstrated through annual camping trips with the family (usually without Mom), his ‘green’ living habits and commitment to environmentally supportive organizations. Friends will be received at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus, on Friday, July 9th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be conducted at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George St. West in Fergus, on Saturday, July 10th at 2:00pm. Private family interment on Monday. It was David’s wish that donations be made in lieu of flowers to either the Nature Conservancy of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society, cards available at the Funeral Home (519) 843-3100. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
