The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Daniel DeVries can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Dan

Once in a while we get lucky and meet someone in our life that you immediately connect with.

Dan was one of those guys.

Having met only met Dan a few short years ago, we connected as if we had always known each other. Like a childhood friend, a close buddy or brother.

We shared many of the same interests including racing, fishing, hockey and Chevy’s.

Although we didn’t see each other often enough, we stayed connected. We texted often and chirped each other about our choice of hockey teams. I openly agreed that his Leaf’s were better than my Sabre’s and agreed Matthews was better than Eichel. He was adamant about converting me over to the White and Blue.

We were able to get together fishing last year and although the fishing wasn’t great, we had a great time fishing well into the dark.

Dan made no excuses for our poor results and told me that Allie was actually the better angler in the family!

Dan had stopped by a couple times this past year when working the Cambridge area, which was always awesome. Gail and I truly enjoyed his company even if only for a few minutes to chat.  He kidded our daughter Shannon about making sure “her big brother gets the 57 Chevy!”

He worked hard, loved his family, wife and boys. He was completely genuine and kind, had a great sense of humor and always fun to be around.

Just a couple weeks ago I sent him a pic of Cher singing with the quote. ”Turn back time 1hr this Sunday, Cher with your friends”…  I wish I could turn back time now.

We feel fortunate to have known Dan for this short amount of time.

We will miss him immensely.

Shawn, Gail and Shannon
