Claudine Carol Koyich

Born July 12, 1934, died January 18, 2023 after a short battle with Leukemia. She was born on a farm near Petersburg and was educated in that area and Kitchener. As an adult she moved to the Elmira area and worked for the Kitchener Waterloo Record. She studied classical music and served as an organist at several parishes in Ontario. In 1975 Claudine married George Koyich and moved to Edmonton, Alberta and continued her work at the Edmonton Journal. After the death of George in 2012, she moved back to the Kitchener Waterloo area and volunteered at Grand River Hospital and the Hospital Foundation. She also volunteered at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, of which she is a member. She enjoyed many hobbies and loved to knit, petit point, reading, and gardening. Together her and George went hunting, cross country skiing, and canoeing. She is survived by her daughter Sandy (Gary) Snider of St. Jacobs, step-daughter Lindsay Jacobs of Toronto, and granddaughters Becky (Mike) Bezpaly of Tillsonburg, Emrys Jacobs of Edmonton, Katy Koyich of British Columbia,, sister Marie Diechert of Zurich Ontario, and sister-in-law Joanne Schmidt of Elliot Lake. She was predeceased by her husband George, son Robert Schmitt, step-daughter Dianne Koyich, her parents, 3 brothers, and 4 sisters. Claudine’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home 617 King Street N Waterloo (519-888-7700) on Monday January 23, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday January 24 from 1-2 pm, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or Innisfree House. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers for the exceptional care that was given to their mother during her time at Innisfree House. They made a very difficult time a little easier to bear
