Obituary for Claude Yvon Prieur

It was on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 that Claude’s immortal spirit was peacefully released from his broken body and is no doubt looking for a golf course to play, unencumbered by the weight of earthly illnesses.
Through tear filled eyes and breaking hearts this gentle soul was seen on his way with his son Jocelyn Prieur and daughter-in-law Melinda Prieur, sisters Ginette Prieur and Suzanne Prieur and partner Christine Klein by his side.
Others left to feel the void are his grandsons Nicholas Menard-Prieur and Christian Prieur, brother-in-law Claude Grenier, nephew and godson Simon Lamoureux, and nephews Julien Lamoureux, Maxime Prieur-Grenier and Alexandre Prieur-Grenier.
Born in Montreal October 25th, 1948 to loving parents, Monique Paige and Robert Prieur, he often spoke of what seemed to be the idyllic childhood with summers spent at the lake with a horde of cousins. He loved boating, playing hockey, baseball, skiing, fishing and for a time, was even a volunteer fire fighter.
Claude worked for Capitol Records and later EMI as the vice-president of distribution but, being the unassuming guy he was, it was only through casual conversation that you’d discover that yes, he did go golfing (of course) with Anne Murray and yes, he knew Garth Brooks to name drop but a few.
After retirement he spent winters in Florida, golfing, naturally, and summers at his cottage on Belwood Lake.
After moving to Fergus, he volunteered with Groves Memorial Hospital, serving meals to patients or helping to keep the ER tidy. It was only later, as a patient himself, did he complain about those meals. Apologies to all concerned.
His life was full. His absence profound. He is deeply loved.
Family and friends may visit on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 12:00 to 2:00pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus ON. A Memorial Service will begin at 2:00pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
Donations in Claude’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The family would like to thank the staff in the Grand River Hospital ICU for their compassion and care. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
