Obituary for Charles Roland MacGregor
Charles Roland MacGregor
April 22, 1934 – July 17, 2019
Son of Wilfrid Wellington McGregor and Ferol Elise Matthews McGregor, Roland was raised on a thriving farm near Wallaceburg, Ontario, one of seven children. He is predeceased by siblings Elaine, Kathleen, Norine, Jean, and Allen, and survived by his fiercely loving sister Maxine who was there for him so many times throughout his life. Roland married his life partner Marguerite Anne Ibbotson on February 8, 1958, carrying the weight of her untimely death in 1986 throughout the remainder of his life, always nurturing the daisies outside his door in remembrance. Roland will be deeply missed by his devoted daughter Karen, by his son-in-law and partner-in-crime Peter Creditor, and by his grandsons Matthew and Alexander who brightened his life with their music, food, stories, and shenanigans. Roland was a lifelong musician and athlete, always competing against his own “personal best”, winning
recognition in his youth in track, lacrosse, and football, and inducted into the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame. That competitive spirit permeated his career, and he prided himself on remembering every one of his Cambridge Cycle Centre and B-K Motors customers by both name and vehicle.
Over his life Roland has been blessed to be part of an extended tribe of deeply caring relatives, friends, colleagues, and neighbours who delighted in his humour and quick wit, his wry storytelling, his fondness for puns and limericks, and his quirky stubborn independence. He was preceded in death this year by Marguerite’s beloved sister Norma Ibbotson Garvin, and will be sadly missed by Marguerite’s siblings Douglas Grose, Margaret Grose Illman and her husband Don, and Ken Ibbotson and his wife Marilyn, as well as by all of his Clan MacGregor and Grose-Ibbotson nieces and nephews around the globe. Services will be held Monday, July 22, 2019 at 2pm at St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, 36 Henderson Street, Elora, Ontario. Roland’s family extends an invitation to join them afterward for refreshments, music, laughter, and storytelling. Memorial gifts in Roland’s name can be made to the St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation in Toronto, to the Groves Hospital Foundation in Fergus, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, with deepest thanks from the family for all of the extraordinary care and support Roland received from these organizations over the years. www.grahamgiddyfh.com
