Obituary for Carol Jean Nowack (Dolezsar) (Kuhn)

Nowack (Dolezsar), Carol Jean (nee Kuhn)

Passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of her family on Saturday March 11, 2023 at Grand River Hospital Freeport Health Centre in her 81st year. Carol had spent the final 15 months of her life at Chartwell Westmount, due to struggles with dementia.

Carol was predeceased by the love of her life, Bob Nowack Sr (1985) and her second husband, Joseph Dolezsar (2021). Loving mother of Patricia Murko of Waterloo, Lisa Nowack (Ken Decaire) of Kitchener, and Bob Nowack (Jenn) of Fergus. Dear Grandmother of Laura and Dayna Murko, Kate Welsh (Tim), Denver Schlitt (Jenessa Dominas), Becca Schlitt, Jheyson Schlitt, Christopher Ososki Khaden Nowack, Taylor Nowack and Mark Decaire,. Great Grandmother of Paislee Schlitt. Fondly remembered by her siblings Carl Kuhn (Helen) and Al Kuhn (Betty) and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Albert (1978) & Jean Kuhn (2000), her brother Ralph Kuhn (1980) and grandchildren Jimmy Murko (1991) and Jordan Schlitt (2022).

Carol was born on September 26, 1942, the only girl in a family of boys. She always loved to remind us that at the age of 10, she was cooking dinner for her entire family, by 16 she left school to contribute to the household finances and just 12 days after she turned 18, married her soulmate, Bob. Together, they had three beautiful children, built a house and a cottage and made lasting memories until he passed away in 1985. Carol’s greatest joy was spending time with family. Carol loved her children fiercely and would go to great lengths to celebrate them and their achievements, making them feel that they were the most important people in her world. She loved to travel, share a meal and see live productions with family. She loved creating memories with her grandchildren that they will cherish and carry with them forever.

Carol treasured the lifelong friendships she had, especially with Karen, Jean and Lynn. She was happiest when surrounded by those she loved the most. Carol loved animals and could usually be found taking care of all the local wildlife. Each evening, she would create a gourmet feast for the squirrels, skunks and stray cats that frequented her backyard.

Carol was a strong, independent woman who never let anything stand in her way. She could wield a chainsaw, lay tile floors, build stone patios and fireplace walls. She dabbled in stained glass, flower arranging, ceramics, ballroom dancing and oil painting.

She spent over thirty years working at Conestoga College in various roles and did bookkeeping for Nowack’s Auto Repair. Carol also obtained a private pilot’s license, which shocked those of us who knew how she liked to drive! She also became a Real Estate broker, and volunteered at Lisaard House and for her church’s Meals on Wheels program for many years. Carol was never one to sit idle, always finding new projects to keep herself busy.

Over the years, she was involved in various church committees, attending church as a family was always very important and this tradition continued with her daughter and granddaughters. Throughout her life, she carried with her a deep faith and love for the Lord and we know that she is now rejoicing at being in His presence.

We will love and miss you forever.

Special thank you to the nurses Hannah and Fatima at Grand River Hospital - Freeport GR3 for making her final days more comfortable and to Camelia at Chartwell Westmount LTC for your care and kindness over the past year.
