Obituary for Bryon Edward Sievert

It’s with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bryon Edward Sievert, husband to Kathy, father of Michelle & Mark, grandfather to Peyton & Lorynn on Thursday January the 5th 2023.
Bryon was born in Toronto on March the 11th 1947. He was the son of the late Edward & Marion (nee Crewson) Sievert.

During his time at the University of Windsor he married his wife Kathy and completed his accounting degree after which he went to work for Johnson, Stewart, Bourne, Browne & Company where he obtained his CA designation. In 1977 he began his own practice with David Henderson, Henderson & Sievert. After many iterations of his accounting practice he semi-retired in 2018 and permanently moved to his property near Belwood, Ontario which he had always loved going there to escape the city.

Bryon loved sports and played football throughout high school and like most kids of that era he also loved playing hockey and baseball. He was a member of the Lambton G&CC and loved squeezing in 18 holes of golf when he could. This love of sports carried over to his coaching of Kathy’s softball team when she was working at Bell Canada as well as coaching his son Mark’s hockey team for many years. He was an avid curler since he was a teenage and loved to bonspiel wearing his cowboy hat. He enjoyed curling in the Quebec International Bonspeil for over 25 years playing with both his father and son at different times. He was a member of the Fergus Curling Club at the time of his passing.

Not only did he enjoy playing sports but was a prolific collector of baseball cards and would always have an opinion of the Maple Leafs & Blue Jays management decisions. He had such a love of the game of baseball that he participated in and later hosted a twice annual tournament played originally as a board game and later on computers.

In 1999 he was bit by the travel bug after his first trip to Europe even celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary in France in 2018. He also took great joy in vacationing with his granddaughters in sunny places like, Mexico, Hilton Head SC, Florida as well less sunny places like France & England.

Bryon is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Michelle & Mark, his grandchildren Peyton & Lorynn, sisters Lynda Bowles (Graham Bonesteel) & Suzanne (Ronald) Reading, serveral nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, sister in-law Lynn Magner, brother in-law Duane Fell (Darlene Campbell) and many many friends.

Cremation has taken place at Graham A. Giddy Funeral home in Fergus, Ontario. A celebration of life will be held at his home near Belwood, Ontario in the summer.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in Bryon’s memory to the Fergus Curling Club are welcomed.
