Obituary for Bessie Barbaree

Barbaree, Bessie Belva Irene – of Fergus passed peacefully at Birchleaf residence of Wellington Terrace on Monday June 25th, 2012, in her 95th year.Beloved wife of the late Clarence Alexander Barbaree who predeceased her November 9, 1964. Cherished sister of Marjorie Bratley of Niagara Falls, Shirley Engel (William) of Waterloo and Earl Thompson of Toronto. Sadly missed and fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.Born November 4th 1917 in Mornington Township. Bessie moved to Fergus and began work in the office at Beatty Bros. Limited (now GSW). Bessie was the personal secretary for Mr. Hamm; after 45 years of service Bessie retired in 1982. Throughout her life she enjoyed golf, curling, theatre, gardening and travel. Bessie was very generous and made people her priority. Bessie was an active member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Fergus. Bessie is predeceased by her parents, Mason Carey (March 1918) and Jennie Hamilton Thompson (May 1966) and; Sister; Evelyn Carey Gordon (1997), Brothers; Ross Thompson (1927 in infancy), Glenn Thompson (1996), Ron Thompson (1999). Brother-in-laws; Fred Gordon (1996), Jack Bratley (2004), Sister-in-laws; Diane Thompson, (2003), Leota Thompson (2008).The family of Bessie would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to everyone at Wellington Terrace where Bessie has received loving care and has called home for the last 5 years. We most especially thank the staff from Cedar Gorge and later Birchleaf who were a special part of her everyday life.Bessie’s family will receive friends at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Homes Ltd, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus on Friday, June 29, 2012 from 1-3pm. Rev. David Whitecross of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church will officiate the 3pm service at the funeral home, followed by interment at Belsyde Cemetery, reception to follow at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.In lieu of flowers donations to Wellington Terrace 474 Wellington Road 18, Fergus, ON N1M 0A1 or St. Andrews Presbyterian Church 325 St. George St. W.
