Benson "Ben" Alvin  Madill
Benson Alvin Madill in his 99th year passed away peacefully after a full and rewarding life on October 30th, 2013 at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus, Ontario. Ben leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Marjorie (Tipping). He will always be remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law Bessie and Alan Simpson, Harriston & Shirley and Jim McFarlane, Guelph. Grandsons Don Simpson and Nicole Young, John Simpson, Jeff and Kara McFarlane, Rob and Holly McFarlane, granddaughter Martha and Tysson Amidon, great grandchildren, Taylor Simpson, Desiree Simpson, William McFarlane, Thomas McFarlane, Allie McFarlane and Luke Amidon, step great granddaughter Samantha Hymers, step great great grandchildren Tabitha, Katrina, Daniela Hymers and great great grandson Xavier Horton. Predeceased by his parents Wilmer and Elizabeth Madill and his siblings Earl, Pearl and John Madill. Ben was born on the family farm on the 1st line west in Mississauga and attended the Britannia SS #12 one room schoolhouse and Brampton High School. He was a longtime member of Britannia United Church and served on the board of Stewards and as an elder. Ben lived and farmed in Peel County for over 60 years. He was an avid supporter of his former public school - the Friends of the Old Britannia Schoolhouse, a member of the Clock Collectors Association, member of the Peel Historical Society, the Mississauga Historical Society, the Milton Steam Era, The Cast Iron Seat Association, president of the Peel Dufferin Plowmens Association. Ben was well known in the rural community for making rope. He travelled to many Fairs, Farm Shows and agricultural events demonstrating the art of antique rope making. Those years brought him much pleasure. Ben was fortunate to live a long and healthy life falling ill only recently. Dr. Kapasi, Dr. Gower, staff at Groves Hospital and the ‘Nurse Next Door’ provided wonderful caring support to Dad and the family during Dad’s final days. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice. Friends may visit at Graham Giddy Funeral Home 280 St. David St. S., Fergus on Friday from 2-4 p.m & 7-9 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 a.m. A Celebration of Ben’s Life will take place Saturday at 11 a.m in the funeral home chapel, with Rev.
