Obituary for Barbara Eleanor Hogg

HOGG, Barbara EleanorAfter a long journey with Alzheimers, she has gone to be with the Lord and be reunited with her family. She passed away at the Wellington Terrace, Fergus, surrounded with love. Barb was born in Toronto, near High Park to her beloved parents Hugh Percival Harrison (d. 1932) and Maude Beatrice Stagg (d. 1969). She cherished her two older brothers Victor (d. 2010) and Ted (d. 1997). She is predeceased by her first husband Carl Croakman (d. 1968) and her second husband Bill Hogg (d. 1997). Survived by her daughters Carol (Wayne) Bridle, Suzanne (Colin) Williams, son Byron (Lori) Croakman and stepdaughter Barb (Lyle) Leis. Also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Byram (Jocelyne) Bridle, Rachael Bridle, Rebecca (Greg) Pritchard, Cara (Peter) Weizenbluth, Amy and Tyler Croakman, Jodi (Greg) Rison and Craig Leis, as well as five great grandchildren: Ben and Jonathan Bridle, Grace Pritchard, Molly Weizenbluth and Chloe Rison. Barb worked briefly as a dental assistant before dedicating her life to family and volunteer work. She was a consummate hostess, wonderful cook and a collector of antiques. Barb volunteered for the CNIB, when her first husband went blind. She was the director of volunteer services at the Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington for several years. Barb also drove to Kitchener/Waterloo to work with the special needs children at the Sunbeam Home. When she moved to Fergus she became an active member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, where she led a women’s bible study for many years. She also volunteered at the Fergus Opportunity Shop, which raises money for Groves Hospital. Barb will be remembered with love by family and her many friends from Bridge Club, Book Club, Probus and I.O.D.E. She was a woman with a strong faith, who withstood several tragedies, but knew Jesus was by her side. She will be greatly missed. Special thanks to all her friends who supported her through her dementia, and the loving caring staff and administrators at The Wellington Terrace LTC. There will be visitation on Sunday, July 29th, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus. A funeral service will take place at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 325 St. George St W, Fergus on Monday, July 30th, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
