Obituary for Andreas Schwarz

Andreas Schwarz
It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear, loving Papa in the early hours of
Thursday, December 14th. The Lord took him home to be with his beautiful, loving Elisabeth
“Lisl” (nee Bierling, d 2009) wife of 55 years, in the presence of his daughter, Elizabeth.
A carpenter by trade, he worked construction for Karley & Kroetsch, ConDign/ConEx. He
designed & built his unique cottage on a cliff at Miller Lake on the Bruce, where fond memories
were made with friends & family from overseas. Summers were either spent there, camping in
Ontario & the US, or in Bavaria, visiting family.
A man of faith, he loved to garden, particularly passionate about growing trees from seed
–hundreds of conifers were given their start under his watchful care here, then transplanted to
the Bruce or donated. He inspired us all to better respect and honour our gift of a precious
Creation.
He always had a kind word, a sense of humour & a twinkle in his eye when he was telling a
story that makes those who knew him smile to remember. He was a loyal friend.
Andreas is survived by his youngest sister, Afra Schwarz, close cousin, Franz Veit, along with a
multitude of nieces & nephews, all in Bavaria. Predeceased by his parents Georg & Regina
(nee Bauer), 3 older brothers Johann, Joseph & Georg and 2 younger sisters, Crecenza &
Sophie.
Elizabeth would like to thank Hospice Waterloo Palliative Team, whose efforts allowed Papa to
have his end at home, with dignity. Special thanks to Dr Janet MacEachern at Grand River
Regional Cancer Centre & Nurse, Susan Steckley, for the years of dedication & wisdom shared,
& the compassion and humour shown.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, December 21
st
, 11 am at St Louis RC Church
on Allen Street, followed by a luncheon downstairs & interment at Memory Gardens.
Donations in Andreas’ memory can be made to the Working Centre’s ‘Community Tools
Projects’, or to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre with cards made available at the back
of the church through Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 617 King Street North, Waterloo, Ontario.
