Obituary for Alvin George Caldwell

Died peacefully at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus on December 14, 2019. His mind and spirit stayed strong to the end, even when his health did not. He treasured his family. Alvin was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Jeanette Caldwell, in 1992. He leaves behind his three children, Warren, Peter (with Rori), Jayne (with Jason), and four grandchildren (Max, Zach, Lee and Ava).

While Alvin worked hard, he also loved to have a good time. Music particularly brought him joy, whether it was choral or bluegrass, big band or country. He always looked forward to hearing the Woods family play.

He also loved a good chuckle – the worse the joke, the more he liked it. Alvin also had an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed travelling, trying new things and meeting new people. Although he sought new experiences, Melville United Church provided a cornerstone of faith and community throughout his life.

A service will be held for Alvin on Saturday December 21st at 1:30 p.m. at The Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South in Fergus. A private interment at Belsyde Cemetery occurred earlier this week.

Thanks particularly to Eric Henderson, Jerry and Anneke Wymer, and to so many others for their love, friendship and support over the years.
