Alfred Thomas "Alf"  Harper
Alf passed away peacefully at Wellington Terrace on January 8, 2014 at the age of 93. Predeceased by his wife Flo Harper (2006),sister Dora Sleight (2004), niece Marion Dutch (2009); son-in-law Ron Turner (2010),and sister-in-law Irene Sleight (2011). Loving father of Sheila Turner, Chris Goudie & husband Peter; David Harper & wife Debbie. Grandfather of Kevin Lloyd (Mary), Jamie Lloyd, Alex Turner (Sheila), Cindy Nelson (Greg), Eric Goudie (Julie), Kirk Goudie (Jessica), Amanda Harper, Adam Harper, (Jodie), Danielle Pacheco (David) Ana DeMelo, Nicole Davis (Joshua). Great Grandfather of Ryan, Katie, Jade, Vicki, Evy, Conner, Aiden, Karson, Kolter, Kylyn, Kodyn, Mia, Brian, Matthew, Bella, Evelynn, Xoe, Laynie.
Brother-in-law of Phyllis Sleight. Loving Uncle of Arlene Carter (Dave), Paul Sleight (Elizabeth), cousins, and many extended family members and friends.
Son of the late Thomas Harper and Edith Rushton, Alf was born in Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, England on August 17, 1920. He came to Canada in 1924 where the family settled in Brantford and finally residing in the town of Fergus at the age of 10.
At the age of 16 Alf worked as a Machinist at Beatty Brothers/GSW and retired in 1985
He served overseas in WWII where he met & married Flo Sleight November 15, 1945. They moved to Fergus and resided on Perry Street for over 60 years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends will take place at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus on Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. A funeral Service will follow the visitation. Private family interment will take place at the Belsyde cemetery. Reception will take place in the Wellington Room at the funeral home.
