Obituary for Genevieve "Jan" Marie O'Grady (Broders)

Genevieve "Jan" Marie O'Grady (Broders)
With thanksgiving for a wonderful life well lived, Genevieve passed away peacefully at the Wellington Terrace in Fergus, Ontario, on September 23, 2017. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman Edward O’Grady (2006) and the much loved mother of Kathleen of Fergus, Ontario and Martin of Barrie, Ontario. Genevieve was the very proud grandmother of Laura and Elise, and will be remembered fondly by their mother, Kim. She also treasured her relationship with her “adopted” son, Fr. Ray Earle, of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Genevieve was the daughter of the late Maurice and Elizabeth Broders of Tilting, Fogo Island, Newfoundland, and was the only surviving member of her sibling group of ten. She was the cherished Aunt of many nieces and nephews in Newfoundland and Ontario.
Genevieve was devoted to her Roman Catholic faith. This commitment formed the foundation of her thoughtfulness with family, friends and strangers alike, and her unwavering support and compassion for others. She was also well known for her “world famous” chocolate chip cookies!
The family will receive their friends and family at the Graham Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South, Fergus, Ontario, on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 760 St. David Street North, Fergus, Ontario, on Friday, September 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate that any memorial donations be made to either of the following: the St. Joseph’s Parish Building Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Wellington Terrace.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Stickney, Dr. Richard Gergovich, the staff at the Wellington Terrace, and the staff at the Heritage River Retirement Residence, for their kindness and care shown to Genevieve at all times.
