Doreen Margaret  Sargent (Rooney (nee: Murray))
Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph on Monday, June 20, 2016 after a year-long struggle with cancer. Doreen is survived by her loving husband Bob Sargent, of Elora and by her son Jeff Rooney and his wife Susan of Fall River, Nova Scotia, her son Jason Rooney and his partner Renée of Salem and her daughter Janet Rooney and her husband Barry Maule of Barrie. Doreen leaves behind her eight precious grandchildren, Josh Rooney, Zoey Rooney, Kyle Rooney-Weatherhead, Zach Rooney, Hannah Rooney, Cedar Maule, Sierra Maule and Raevyn Maule. Also surviving are her sister Eleanor Okihiro and her husband Chico of Elora and her brother Bruce Murray and his partner Debbie McManus of Arthur. Doreen is also fondly remembered by her niece, Julie Martin and son Logan of Elora. Doreen will be dearly missed as well by her brother-in-law Doug Sargent of Palmerston and sister-in-law Patricia Sargent of Carleton Place, also by many extended family members and dear friends. Doreen is predeceased by her parents Newton (2001) and Gertrude (1980) Murray. Growing up on the 2nd line of West Luther, Doreen attended school there and in Arthur, eventually graduating from Stratford Teacher’s College in 1967. She spent most of her life in the Arthur area, teaching in Arthur , Kenilworth and later in Elora and Fergus as an E.A. Doreen was a dedicated church-goer and had a strong Christian faith, most recently becoming a partner at Lakeside Church in Guelph. A service celebrating Doreen’s life will be held at Lakeside Church, Conservation Road, Guelph, on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 at 11:00 am, with visitation for an hour and a half before the service. Lunch in the Café will follow. A private family burial will take place at McKee Cemetery, East Garafraxa.
