Condolences

Condolence From: Eric Dennis
Condolence: My wife Sabrina and I are so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. We wish to convey our sincere condolences to Susan, Eric, and the family, for their loss.

I knew Steve from back in my days at Guelph University in the mid-70s, and forward. Susan is my former sister-in-law (and still my friend), and I guess I thought of Steve as a brother-in-law, even if indirectly so. I remember Steve's infectious and wry sense of humour, his delight in the small but hilarious moments and absurdities in life.

I remember too his love of Wellington County and it's history - it's place in the historical tapestry of Ontario - and of course his annual hosting of 'The Wellington County Invitational Croquet Tournament' as it's Commissioner! No part of the all-terrain farm at which one such tourney was held was to be altered in any way due to the match - which resulted in a wood-railing farm cross-fence being carefully dismantled, the return-to-the-pitch shot made, and then the section of fence being carefully re-built in it's exact configuration...several times. Steve delighted in such proprietries. Or, soon after I met Steve, in an early visit to Otto & Renate's home in Elora, being brought to tears of laughter by Steve's delight in observing the somewhat annoyed expression on the visage of the home's pet Finch, when spoken-to.

Steve's wry humour and wit also concealed a keen eye for observation, and the more subtle workings of politics, people, and history - and gardening!. His interests were many, big and small. He made an important and personal impact on everyone he met.

I will never forget Steve, and I'm proud to have known him. All Love, and Rest In Peace.

Condolence: My sincere condolences to Steve's family. He was way ahead of his time in energy conservation and his concern about the environment. He will certainly be missed within our community.

Condolence: Steve Thorning has been a peripheral presence in my life since 1967. I have many memories of Steve since that time. I am profoundly saddened. My condolences to all his friends and family.

Condolence: My deepest sympathies go out to Stephens family at this time. I was never a close friend of Stephen but do remember him from school days and also that we lived in the same area of town. Such a loss to lose someone as young as Steve was.

Condolence: Please accept our sincere condolences in the passing of Stephen. I very much enjoyed his history of the Elora area and learned a great deal about many familiar people and how their lives have shaped Elora.
